As at Roland-Garros, Wimbledon will distribute record prize money to players for this 2022 edition.
With a return to normal post COVID-19 and revenues which will start to rise again (ticketing, sponsorship, TV rights, merchandising, matchday, etc.), the London Grand Slam played on grass will distribute a historic financial allocation in 2022 with a total of 40.35 million pounds, i.e. around 47.4 million euros.
An overall financial allocation which is an increase of 11.1% compared to 2021 and 5.4% compared to 2019, the last edition with a “normal” reception capacity. In 2020, The Championships had been canceled and the sum of 10 million pounds had still been distributed to the players by the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
Wimbledon 2022: €2.35m for the winner
In detail, the winner of Wimbledon 2022 (men’s singles and ladies’ singles) will pocket a check for 2 million pounds, around 2.35 million euros.
For the singles main draws (Men and Women), the prize money only increases by 1.8% compared to 2019. The biggest increases will once again concern the first rounds. The winner, the finalist and the 1/2 finalists will earn even less than in 2019, the last “normal” edition of the tournament.
The overall increase in prize money will mainly benefit players who will participate in the qualifications with +48.1% compared to 2019.
